Once there was a frog king and a frog queen who lived in a beautiful dark clear pool in the heart of the forest. They were a very happy pair. They would sit together on a floating water lily leaf and they would sing beautiful frog songs far into the night. And the birds and small creatures of the forest knew that all was safe as long as the frog music continued.
The frog couple had a beautiful daughter. The king and queen wanted her to marry well, because they had just found out that ultra violet radiation had compromised their immune systems, and they might not live long. They wanted their daughter happily settled.
The frog king gave his daughter a golden ring and told her to hide it somewhere in the forest. She hid it in a water lily flower. The king announced the treasure hunt to win the princess' love and all the young male frogs in the land searched high and low for the golden ring.
One day a human boy stopped at a pool to drink and he saw the ring. The princess was watching and she jumped out of the water and told the boy that he must be her one true love.
``Why would I want to be that?'' the boy asked.
``Because you will be a prince, and then one day a king,'' she said.
``Sounds good,'' the boy answered, and he followed the frog princess to her parents' pool and the pair were married in a very beautiful but simple ceremony.
The boy kissed the frog princess and much to his surprise he started turning into a frog.
Although his life was relatively short, he loved the frog princess and never really regretted the change.
